Give the Gift of A Perfect Smile

The holidays are officially upon us! With the trees and lights come that ever daunting feeling of not knowing what presents to get for your loved ones. Let’s be honest. Does your mother really need another scarf? Does your brother actually want that t-shirt with the cats on it? How about giving something this year that will make your family and loved ones think of you every time they look in the mirror – an amazing and healthy smile. At Bluewater Bay Dental, we offer services that will benefit any one of the friends and family you’re shopping for this holiday season.

Give the Gift of A Perfect SmileDoes your mother feel that over the years her smile isn’t as white and bright as it used to be? She’s probably been so busy taking care of her family over the years, she hasn’t had the time to take care of herself. We offer whitening services that will make mom happier than ever. With our Advanced Power Tooth Whitening system, we can give someone a noticeably whiter smile in just one hour!

How about that sister that you never know what to get for? Treat her to our special Botox or Juvederm treatment and give her the confidence and rejuvenation she’s been looking for. The benefits of Botox or Juvederm go beyond beauty and can even help with symptoms of stress induced bruxism or grinding.

Are you tired of that old trick your uncle pulls every year with his fake tooth? Dental implants might be exactly what he’s been wanting. Implants look natural, and are perfectly functional for life. While it’s a simple innovation and procedure, implants not only look better, but become one with the bone, preventing further tooth loss and keeps the face youthful and supported.

Go the extra mile this year and treat those that you love to something that will last. We treat your family like they’re our own and everyone will leave happier and healthier. While you’re at it, take the time and give yourself the gift of a healthy smile too, you deserve it. From all of us at Bluewater Bay Dental, Happy Holidays!

Find Out if Sedation Dentistry is for You

Just the thought of the dentist sets your heart racing and your palms sweating. You can already hear the drilling and you begin to feel faint. These aren’t uncommon fears or feelings when people know they have to have a dental procedure. Today, there have been wonderful improvements in the area of sedation dentistry.

Sedation is usually used for most major dental procedures, but some people opt to go under even for a routine cleaning. Many dentists and patients alike agree that it makes procedures much easier when using the sedatives. The patients are completely relaxed, making it more comfortable for the dentist to work.

While getting a sedative may sound like it’s always a better option when getting work done, it’s important to make sure the dentist is appropriately trained.

Sedation and general anesthesia can be safe and effective, but it must be administered properly. This means that the patient is monitored for changes in blood pressure, heart rate and oxygen levels.

Relaxation dentistry is a term that describes the use of minimal sedation for anxious dental patients. This can be used to decrease anxiety, but the patient is still fully conscious. Sometimes this can be a better option than going all the way under, especially when getting a procedure that isn’t too invasive. I understand the anxiety when coming in for a visit. If you feel nervous or overly anxious, I make sure to sit with you and talk about what to expect, then discuss sedation options that would work best for you. Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes

Head, Shoulders, Knees and ToesRemember a long time ago when your mother would tell you to sit up straight, or “No slouching at the dinner table?” Well, I’m here to tell you the same thing. If you have poor posture, it can directly affect the position of your jaw. This misalignment can begin to cause headaches, migraines and TMJ.

The spine is the super highway to the rest of the body, so if it’s not healthy or functioning properly, there will be discomfort in other parts of the body, including the oral cavity. According to the article in knowyourteeth.com, “When people slouch or hunch over, the lower jaw shifts forward, causing the upper and lower teeth to not fit together properly, and the skull moves back on the spinal column.” If this goes on untreated for a long period of time, it can cause inflammation in the jaw. Today, so many people spend time hunched over a computer all day, it’s no wonder there are more patients with jaw discomfort or headaches.

I see patients with facial pain and TMJ quite often, and many times it tends to be because of an unbalanced posture. We sometimes forget that everything is connected and don’t associate our pain with other parts of our body that may not be hurting at that moment. If you are suffering from headaches or jaw pain, take a look at your posture the next time and see if sitting up straight helps. Oh, and take your elbows off the dinner table. Get to the Root of the Problem

Say the words root canal and prepare to see people cringe. Just the thought of getting a root canal can send people into a tailspin of anxiety and pre-emptive stress. The truth is though most people don’t know exactly what a root canal is or what the procedure is. They only know the old horror stories from their parents and grandparents.

At Bluewater Bay Dental, I actually like doing root canals! I like knowing that I am saving you from future pain and discomfort while saving your teeth. The procedure is not nearly as intimidating as it may sound. A root canal procedure is a treatment when the pulp, or inside of the tooth is inflamed, infected or dead. There are many things that can damage the pulp or nerve of a tooth. A few examples are:

–        Pain inside the tooth

–        Abscess: when the pulp of the tooth dies and becomes infected

–        Deep cavity

–        Trauma: If the tooth is hit and the nerve is severed

–        Tooth fracture

Once it’s decided that you need a root canal the procedure is quite simple. I gently drill through the enamel of the tooth and clean the pulp to remove infection, damaged nerves or debris. Finally, once cleaned, disinfected and medicated, I seal the tooth with both a rubber sealant and a custom made crown. You will leave feeling brand new and without any more pain. Now that doesn’t sound so terrible, does it? If you have pain or discomfort in one or more teeth, don’t hesitate any longer. Make an appointment with Bluewater Bay Dental today and let’s get to the root of the problem.
