Do you need headache relief? Have you been diagnosed with temporomandibular disorder, or TMD? Some patients with unexplained aches in their jaw, face, neck, or shoulders have this painful condition.

Our dentists’ main mission is to relieve suffering while enhancing health. That’s why we want to free you from the chronic discomfort and pain caused by TMD—as soon as possible. Please call Smileology to schedule an appointment and take the first step to relief.

Benefits of TMD/TMJ Treatments

TMD is bad for your oral health, but it can even cause pain throughout your entire body. With TMJ treatment from Smileology, we can help with headache relief and other painful symptoms of TMD to get you back to a healthy and happy lifestyle.

Our talented professionals have experience using bite guards and splints to treat TMJ disorders—these can help reduce or even eliminate some of the symptoms of TMD! No one likes chronic pain, so let us help get rid of yours.

Symptoms of TMD

If you have TMD, it may be causing:

  • Ringing in your ears.
  • Migraine headaches.
  • Soreness in your jaws.
  • Uneven wearing of your tooth enamel.
  • Face, neck, or shoulder pain.
  • Clicking or locking jaws.

Have you lived with these or similar symptoms for a long time? It’s been long enough. We want to see you walk out of our office with a surprised and relieved smile. We want to see your posture and gait change because of your freedom from pain. And we want the cause of the problem to be managed for the long-term, making you feel safe.

How Can TMD Be Treated?

Many cases of TMD are caused by misaligned bites, jaw clenching, accidents, arthritis, and other conditions that strain the jaw. This leads to the temporomandibular joint—also known as the TMJ—being chronically strained, which can send pain and inflammation out to surrounding nerves and tissues.

We offer two types of TMJ treatment:

  • Bite Guards or Splints | We can craft a customized bite guard that comfortably guides your teeth and jaws into better movement patterns to relieve strain on your joints.
  • Botox | At our Santa Rosa Beach office, we offer Botox injections, which can relax your jaw muscles to prevent them from overworking, and help you manage the strain and discomfort of TMD.

With either option, our goal is to relieve the condition that is putting stress on your jaw joints. Once jaw strain is reduced, inflammation should also be reduced, along with the pain that was sent through nearby nerves. The first steps to healing and reduced pain can begin at one of our offices in Northwest Florida!
